Wandsworth Community Chaplaincy Trust is a befriending scheme for prisoners at HMP Wandsworth. We exist to provide care and support for offenders and former offenders of all faiths and none, who have been in custody at HMP Wandsworth.
Working together, the Prison's Resettlement Chaplain and the WCCT Outreach Worker build contacts with faith communities and other local organisations, who are interested in supporting ex-prisoners.
In order to support men while in Prison and through the gates in to the community, we recruit, train and supervise volunteer befrienders from the community.
Aims & Objectives
"Being a befriender requires you to suspend judgement of the individual and offer help and guidance wherever possible. I am realistic about what I can contribute but hopeful about what can be achieved."
"Having a befriender has helped me to trust people more...Knowing that someone would be meeting and greeting me upon my release, to help and guide me."
